Peer teaching phase 2 reflection

Image
Reflection: Hard  Work Pays Off                         It was at the wake of 17 th November 2020, we heard the official declaration of first ever documented Covid-19 case. Most of us haven’t even dreamt of this 120nm weighing virus to get spread as a pandemic that shook the whole world and brought a dynamic shift in all walks of our lives. By March, we all got locked in our homes, which led to a sudden halt to all sectors, including education. But the basic survival instinct in humans has led to the sudden shift to online mode, including work from home and online learning. Teacher trainees also went with the flow of the ‘new normal’. This unplanned, dynamic shift with insufficient bandwidth and little preparation could have moved into fruitlessness, if not inspired and guided by our backbones- teachers. I would specially mention Jijan Sir, who motivated us to try out new ways of online teaching and encouraged us to incorporate new tools into our classes. It was a time-taking ta

TEACHING PRACTICE UPDATES Crossing the barriers created by Covid-19, teaching practice started in its full swing through online mode.  My teaching practice is done in association with Govt. HSS, Pattazhy, where I did my one week school induction program of the first semester. Meera S Nair and Arathy J B also accompanied me.  On 17th November 2020, classes were divided and provided for me by Simi teacher, who is one among the English language teachers of the school. A discussion on the topics was done with her. She added me to the Whatsapp groups of Std. 8A and Std. 9 A.  On the next day, we prepared 2 lesson plans for the classes and assessed their assignments. The Light on the Hills of eighth standard and Song of the Rain of ninth standard were taken.  On 19th November,2020, from 7pm to 8pm, a class was taken for the eighth grade. The lesson which I dealt was the story, Light on the Hills written by Lucy Clifford. It was an interactive class. A good discussion of the second part of

This activity seemed to be very helpful, for those classes did set a good example of how classes could be done online. The images of classes I observed and reflected are given below.  Std 9- Song of a Dream Std 10- Lines Written in Early Spring Std 8 - We're the World

Peer Teaching Experience

Image
Peer teaching of the third semester started on 5 th of October 2020 at 10pm. Started with collaborative teaching, the first two classes of the peer teaching were taken as a single unit. Later, the collaborative classes were divided into 2 units via Google meet. After the completion of two collaborative lessons of each group, individual classes were taken-two each. An asynchronous class was also recorded and submitted.                         Peer teaching was an amalgamation of experiences. The pandemic crisis, which brought a dynamic shift in the pedagogic practices, seemed to be a blessing in disguise. Peer teaching proved to set good examples to show that teaching is not in caesurae but a new path of change. It was a hope setter that presented before us a wide variety of opportunities, to which we didn’t open our eyes till that date. Peer teaching boosted us with confidence and erased even the last slice of technophobia that existed in our minds. It gave birth to a new set of t

Covid 19

Image
"Desperate times, Desperate measures"   Due to Covid-19, the world is going through its difficult times. The news that comes to us through the media reports shocking cases of patients as well as deaths. But this is not a time to be afraid. As Franklin D Roosevelt quoted, "Only thing we have to fear is fear itself." What we need is not fear but, caution. As our country goes through the lock down, we cannot step out from our homes. But still, we are the part of our academic calendar. Not everything can be executed normally; still we have options to run the cycle. The teachers of Mount Tabor Training College along with their students are running this academic cycle, as fairly as possible.  Important information regarding the examinations were communicated through the official Whatsapp group. Unit tests were conducted through Edmodo , which provided instant results. Thanks to all teachers who stood with us, guiding us and directing a clear path of learning, who m
