TEACHING PRACTICE UPDATES



Crossing the barriers created by Covid-19, teaching practice started in its full swing through online mode. 
My teaching practice is done in association with Govt. HSS, Pattazhy, where I did my one week school induction program of the first semester. Meera S Nair and Arathy J B also accompanied me. 
On 17th November 2020, classes were divided and provided for me by Simi teacher, who is one among the English language teachers of the school. A discussion on the topics was done with her. She added me to the Whatsapp groups of Std. 8A and Std. 9 A. 
On the next day, we prepared 2 lesson plans for the classes and assessed their assignments. The Light on the Hills of eighth standard and Song of the Rain of ninth standard were taken. 
On 19th November,2020, from 7pm to 8pm, a class was taken for the eighth grade. The lesson which I dealt was the story, Light on the Hills written by Lucy Clifford. It was an interactive class. A good discussion of the second part of the story was done, followed by an activity. After the class, the students submitted the notes and the assignment, which I assessed.
On 23rd November,2020, from 6.30pm to 7pm, the continuation of the story, Light on the Hills was discussed. Grammar portion related to noun phrase, verb phrase and prepositional phrase was taken. An activity to compose a diary entry was given, which the students actively submitted. 
On 25th November 2020, the class was taken for the ninth grade and it was an introduction to the play, Listen to the Mountain, written by Kaveri Nambisan. The duration of the class was half an hour. A critical summary of the play was given along with two activities.  
On 27th November 2020, half an hour class was taken to the ninth grade on the second scene of the play, Listen to the Mountain. They were given an overview of how to write a diary entry. To teach them the vocabulary, digital flashcards were given. The link of the digital flashcards are provided below:

    Good.. could write on some insights drawn or reflection of experience besides factual summary.

Second Phase of Teaching Practice

  The second phase of teaching practice started from 4th February 2021.  My internship takes place at Government Higher Secondary School, Konni, which lies at the nature-blessed Konni, located at Pathanamthitta district of Kerala . A good overview of the second phase of teaching practice was given by Jijan sir, which helped me to get an overall idea of the teaching practice.   I am accompanied by two of my peer teacher-trainees, Aleena Sara Elias and Jiya Rachel Mathew. The internship period has the duration of two weeks, starting from 4 th February 2021 till 20 th of the same month. I am mentored by the veteran English language teacher of the school, Rejitha. The mode of internship is through Whatsapp and Google meet.

Webinar on Minor Project

 A webinar on research methodology was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The first session was taken by Dr. Sindhya V, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, University of Kerala. The webinar was via Google Meet on 12th August 2020  from 10.30 am-12.30 pm.
