Peer Teaching Experience

Peer teaching of the third semester started on 5th of October 2020 at 10pm. Started with collaborative teaching, the first two classes of the peer teaching were taken as a single unit. Later, the collaborative classes were divided into 2 units via Google meet. After the completion of two collaborative lessons of each group, individual classes were taken-two each. An asynchronous class was also recorded and submitted.

Peer teaching was an amalgamation of experiences. The pandemic crisis, which brought a dynamic shift in the pedagogic practices, seemed to be a blessing in disguise. Peer teaching proved to set good examples to show that teaching is not in caesurae but a new path of change. It was a hope setter that presented before us a wide variety of opportunities, to which we didn’t open our eyes till that date. Peer teaching boosted us with confidence and erased even the last slice of technophobia that existed in our minds. It gave birth to a new set of teachers, who can pretty well use the technology in their classes. It motivated us to search for more avenues, to make our digital classrooms more effective.

Peer teaching moulded a set of teachers who not only studied the theory of techno pedagogic content knowledge analysis, but also got a great opportunity to practice it at its zenith. It gave us a chance for us to study from our peers too. Thus peer teaching got a new definition from not just teaching the peers, but a scope to study from the peers’ pedagogic ways- be it those simple techniques or technological innovations. It taught us new ways of online teaching- including games, quizzes, virtual tours and Ppts, used in a different way.

Peer teaching also enhanced the ways of classroom management, reinforcement, interest sustainment and motivation, especially in the digital classrooms. It also taught us the different ethics and etiquettes that should be followed in a digital platform too, including the efficient use of chat box, use of camera and microphone at the right time etc.it also helped us to draft lesson plans with much ease and inclusion of technology, different from the traditional lesson plans. Preparation of asynchronous classes also helped us to practice the creation of recorded classes.

In a nutshell, peer teaching which started from 5th of October and ended with 14th of the same month, played a noteworthy role in the shaping of a set of new generation teachers, who are efficient in blending technology and pedagogy in a digital way. All credits to Jijan sir, who paved us the way towards such a golden opportunity.
